Lit By God’s Light:
The Windows of Trinity Church

Len Howard

Two windows are from the design studio of Len Howard in Kent, Conecticut.

The Trible Window
Trible Window

This is the largest window at Trinity.  Elizabeth Reeves, devoted head of the Altar Guild for many years, gave the window in memory of her mother, Elizabeth Campbell Trible.

The window defines the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (the Trinity), and therefore the window defines the name of the church. In the rose, God the Father is depicted as the crowned and bearded figure. God the Son is indicated by the Agnus Dei (the lamb).  He is mounted on a rainbow which is an Old Testament symbol of redemption. The Holy Spirit is represented by a dove which flies earthward.  The central lancet represents our Lord as High Priest.

During communion on Sunday mornings, the sun washes communicants with the reds and blues of this altar window.  It is mesmerizing.

The Henry F. Jourdan History Window (1945)
Henry Jourdan

Henry Jourdan was a Vestryman for 45 years.  The window was gifted by his daughter, Emily Jourdan.

Each medallion is devoted to phases of the development of the Gospel and the history of Trinity Church. The original church is at the top; the topmost medallion depicts the earthly ministry of our Lord, teaching his disciples and followers.  The center medallion depicts the post-resurrection ministry of the Lord, arrayed all in white, with eleven disciples at the table.
